A Divine Encounter
When the Bible Society of Zimbabwe team visited Nyamuzuwe High School, a United Methodist Church-led mission school with an inclusive resource unit, they expected to share the Word, but what they experienced instead was something far deeper: a moment of transformation, hope, and undeniable blessing.
Scripture Without Barriers
The atmosphere was filled with joy as learners gathered to read Scripture, recite it, and share personal insights from different biblical texts. It was more than just a session, it was a powerful encounter that strengthened faith and deepened understanding of God’s Word. The team distributed Braille Scripture portions and thematic materials, ensuring that every visually-impaired learner had access to the Bible in a meaningful way.
A Testimony of Resilience
Among the learners was Tendai Panashe Goredema, a remarkable young man whose journey stood out as a testimony of resilience and transformation.
Pioneering Inclusive Learning
Known affectionately at the school as “Kugara pakutanga pachikoro”, a title given to pioneers, Tendai is one of the first students to be part of the Braille class at the institution. Together with his friend Luba, he helped pave the way for inclusive learning at the school.
A Shift in Perspective
At 28 years old and currently in Lower 6, Tendai’s story is one of renewed purpose. There was a time when he did not see the value of education. Like many young people facing challenges, he once believed that learning had little to offer him. But that perspective has completely changed.
The Power of Education
Today, Tendai speaks with conviction and hope. Education, he says, is not just important, it is life-changing. It opens doors, shapes understanding, and creates opportunities that once seemed out of reach.
Mentorship and Support
A key part of his journey has been the unwavering support of his teacher, Ma’am Chingwena, whose encouragement has helped him recognize his potential and push beyond limitations.
Spiritual Access through Braille
But perhaps one of the most impactful influences in Tendai’s life has been access to the Word of God in Braille.
Restoring Dignity and Independence
For the past years, the Bible Society of Zimbabwe has been faithfully providing Braille Scriptures, making it possible for learners like Tendai to read and engage with the Bible personally. This access has not only strengthened his faith but has also given him a sense of independence and dignity.
A Personal Turning Point
With gratitude in his heart, Tendai reflects on how this gift has shaped his life. Being able to read Scripture for himself has been more than a blessing, it has been a turning point.
Dreams for the Future
Now, he looks ahead with renewed ambition. When he completes his studies, Tendai dreams of going to university to become either an advocate or a social worker, someone who can stand for others and make a difference in the lives of people facing challenges like his own.
