The Bible Society of Zimbabwe team set off with one mission in mind—to bring the story of Jesus Christ to life in Nyamajura, Rusape, through the Jesus Film, a powerful tool provided by the Faith Comes By Hearing project in partnership with the Bible Society of Zimbabwe. The journey was long, and the night uncomfortably cold, but their hearts were ablaze with purpose.
By the time the team arrived, just after 9 p.m, the crowd was already waiting. Despite the freezing temperatures and darkness, they stood patiently in the open, eager to see what the team had come to share.
As the equipment was being set up, something beautiful began to happen. Voices rose in song men, women, and children sang joyfully, transforming the chilly night into a sacred space filled with warmth and unity. The presence of the Holy Spirit was undeniable.
The moment the film started, an awe-struck silence fell over the crowd. Though it was being shown outdoors and the cold persisted, no one moved. Young children and youths made up the largest part of the audience, their eyes wide with wonder as they followed every moment of Jesus’ life—His miracles, His love, His suffering, and His resurrection. It wasn’t just entertainment—it was transformation. The visuals brought the Gospel to life in a way that words alone could not. As the film concluded, the floor was opened for reflections, and the responses were so touching.
Theresa, a young lady, stood and spoke through tears. “Jesus did so much just to save someone like me. I don’t think I could endure what He went through for others. And yet, even though He was the Son of God, He still suffered. That means we too, as Christians, must expect challenges. But knowing Jesus walked that path gives me strength.”
A little boy shared his takeaway: “I learned that we must honor our father and mother, because Jesus said so.” His words were simple, yet profound—proof that even the youngest hearts had received the message.
Tinashe, a young man, was moved by the story of the woman with the issue of blood. “She believed that just touching the edge of Jesus’ garment could heal her—and it did. That kind of faith is powerful. I want that kind of faith.”
People didn’t want the night to end. Even after the final scene faded from the screen, the crowd lingered, talking quietly among themselves, holding onto what they had just witnessed. Some even begged for more films like this, asking if the Bible Society could return soon.
This was not just a film screening. It was an encounter with Jesus Christ—under the stars, in the cold, surrounded by songs and testimonies of faith. It was a reminder that even in the most remote corners of our country, people are hungry for God’s Word, and visual storytelling has the power to reach hearts in unforgettable ways.
